Welcome to module 2. This module introduces the importance of culture and communication when working in aged care.
In this course, you will look at the key communication skills needed to build relationships and trust in a healthcare setting. We will look at our own cultural identity, learn the importance of self-awareness and communication in a health and wellbeing setting, examine the importance of respect for others, and gain an in-depth understanding of communication and engagement with individuals, families, and communities (tangata, whānau) when working in a health setting.
Learning outcomes of this module include:
- Applying cultural and holistic practices to support the needs of patients
- Provide care to Māori in accordance with Te Tiri o Waitangi principles
- Care plans for Māori Pasifika and other nationalities
- Culturally appropriate communication when caring for people from different cultures.
