In order for you to gain the most value from your qualification and to prepare you for your assessment and the industry, make sure you complete all of the SDL tasks.

Capacitor Markings

Capacitors are marked in different ways depending on their type, technology, size, and manufacturer. There is no uniform standard for marking capacitance values in the electrical industry. Some capacitors have their value, tolerance, and working voltage stamped on them, while others use a code system. Additional numbers and letters may indicate temperature range and stability tolerance. The voltage rating indicates the maximum continuous voltage that can be applied to the capacitor. The colour code for capacitors is based on the resistor colour code. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) marking code uses numbers and letters to identify capacitor values.

You can read more about this here. Watch this video then summarise which markings are commonly found on capacitators and their significance.

Scavenger Hunt

Look around your home and identify two devices that utilise an inductor. (Consider telecommunications or wireless communication systems, vehicles, audio systems in your scavenger hunt.)

Present your findings in a visually appealing way. Include the following information for each application:

  1. Name and photo of the application/device
  2. Description of the application and its importance
  3. Explanation of how inductors are utilised in the application.
  4. Any interesting facts or additional information related to the application.
  5. Share your completed presentation on the class forum.

Motor evaluations and Fault Diagnosis

Watch some of these videos (or find some videos yourself) to review some of the material covered.

Sub Topics

This worksheet is a list of words taken from this resource. To help improve your understanding, research their meanings or find the definitions in the workbook.  There is space to write the definitions. You could also look up how to say the word – most online dictionaries will demonstrate this.
