Unit of Competency

This module consists of:

CHCDIS020: Work effectively in disability support

This module covers effective work in disability support, including meeting job requirements, adhering to organisational guidelines, and working in the disability sector and applies to individuals in community services and healthcare, working with people with disabilities.

This unit will include the following elements for you to develop skills and knowledge to work effectively in disability support:

  • Meeting your job role requirements
  • Working within organisational requirements
  • Working within a disability support context; and
  • Implementing self-care strategies
  • You will learn how to provide:
  • person-centred communication
  • identifying tasks from individualised plan
  • recognising scope of own job role and referrals
  • complying with professional conduct requirements
  • recognising and reporting signs of abuse
  • seeking consent for support activities
  • working with interdisciplinary team members
  • engaging with people and organisation using technology
  • completing workplace reports and checklists
  • maintenance and storage of workplace information
  • meeting privacy and confidentiality requirements.

To achieve competency for this unit, you must complete all assessments at the end of this module as well as the structured workplace learning and assessment (including Portfolio, logbook and any other work-related documentation located in Module 16).
