At ICHM, we pride ourselves in a teaching approach that puts the students at the centre of their learning process. Our student-centric ideals are manifested through a high touch, authentic and interactive approach to teaching, whether it be through face-to-face, blended or online modalities. We nurture a participatory approach to learning with a view to empowering you and positioning you for success in any industry.

You are enrolled as a fully online student meaning you will take your subjects exclusively online. The teaching methodology is characterized mostly by asynchronous self-directed learning and interactions with others within the Learning Management System (LMS), as well as synchronous lecture-led session in the form of online seminars and online consultations. This approach will be explained in more detail shortly.

Another important aspect of teaching and learning is your study plan, in other words, how your program is structured and the sequencing with which you enrol for subjects. The Course Overview contained within this platform gives more information about your study plan. Additionally, through accessing ‘My Enrolments’ in your LMS you can view your enrolment plan, as well as important dates in your academic calendar. For further information, refer to the section titled ‘Your enrolment and student services information’ which follows shortly.

An important and critical aspect of your learning journey in any given study period is your assessment. Assessment of learning and demonstration that you have acquired skills and knowledge can be achieved by a combination of many assessment techniques including quizzes, individual or group presentations, reports, essays, case studies and assignments. Some assessments will require you to give presentations and others to work in groups. All details of assessments are provided in the Study Guide for each subject. Please familiarise yourself with the study guide of your respective subjects to ensure you understand the expectations.

Assessment grid

The fact that you are likely to be enrolled in more than one subject at any given time means that you will have several assessment tasks to complete within a study period. An assessment grid is a document that allows you to view all of the assessment due dates for your subjects. It can be used to help you plan your study, assessment submissions and time management.

How can I appeal a grade if I am unsatisfied with my result?

At ICHM, we have a number of academic grievance policies and procedures to ensure that you are able to discuss your grades with lecturers and academic management. These are informed by the Results, Grades and Awards policy.

If you have a concern that is not resolved satisfactorily with your lecturer, you have two (2) weeks from the date of publication of your result on I-Campus (and the result of all further assessments) to submit an appeal to the Academic Committee. Template letters are available here to assist you with the submission process.

For more information on the appeals process, you can find this in the Academic Grievance Policy, accessible through the ICHM website.
