This topic provides an overview of the health and wellbeing sector in Aotearoa, New Zealand. It covers the development and purpose of today's health services to prepare ākonga for introductory roles in a health and wellbeing setting.
The course considers legislation related to healthcare and the impact it has had on the health and wellbeing sector. It will reflect on the impact of colonisation on health and wellbeing outcomes for Māori.
It also looks at the aims of the healthcare system in Aotearoa today, and the challenges support workers face.
The course also discusses the key communication approaches and models used to engage tangata and their whānau accessing support in the health and wellbeing sector.
Lastly, this course looks at the factors that contribute to vulnerability in a health and wellbeing setting.
