To ensure you get the training and support you need to start your tutoring journey with NZMA, in this section, is an outline on how and who will cover off different parts of your induction. NZMA is committed to ensuring that you have a thorough induction, so that you are ready and feeling confident to deliver an engaging programme with our students.

Sub Topics

Week 1

Week 1 will be focused on getting to know your new team on campus, as well as meeting the students at your campus, and deepening your understanding of the different student personas at your specific campus. You will gain a more comprehensive understanding of the role as a tutor, learning all about NZMA, UP Education and getting an overview of  "what we do, and how we do it”. You will have the opportunity to observe other tutors in the classroom, you will even get the chance to deliver an energiser to a class within the first 2 weeks with us, to allow you time to warm into your new role as a tutor.

You should get through Induction Module 1–3 in Week 1

Week 2

This week will be dedicated to preparing you to step into the classroom and start teaching. You will meet your Learning & Development Lead, who will support you and help you to prepare for teaching. You will learn how to complete a lesson plan, how to use a whiteboard/music/classroom

Your Learning & Development Lead will go through Induction Module 4 – 6 with you in Week 2

As a new tutor your first point of contact is your Campus Manager. They will then be able to guide you in terms of the help and support you require. Below are potential staff that can provide support for different parts of your induction:

  • Learners Success Lead (LSL) -  An LSL looks after the equitable outcomes for the campus, and ensuring our students are supported to succeed. The LSL team do this by removing barriers and ensuring our learning environments are a safe place, and inclusive for all. If you have specific questions about how to best support our learners in the classroom you should speak to your campus LSL.
  • Learning & Development Lead (L&D) – The L&D provides training and development in terms of general classroom delivery. They provide training on how to be engaging in the classroom, they will help you prepare for your very first lesson teaching. They will also be supporting you along with your campus manager to achieve your NZ Certificate in Adult Teaching Qualification. If you have any questions relating to your Professional Development Plan (PDP) or classroom delivery, reach out to your L&D Lead.
  • Helpdesk -  If you experience any issues with technology,  you could reach out to one of your colleagues who may be able to help, if it something outside of their scope, you can raise a ticket with our IT Helpdesk. Email  helpdesk@up.education with details of the technical issue you may be experiencing,  and they will be able to assist.
  • Any other questions you may have,  please reach out to your Campus Manager.
