At NZMA, we value your existing skills and also want to support you in developing these skills further which is why we have a very comprehensive Professional Development Programme. This next module is going to outline what your PDP will look like and what qualifications you will gain while working with us.

You will be able to track your progress by reviewing the PowerBI report:

This report will give you a thorough breakdown of what elements you have and have not completed. It is important to discuss your PDP progress with your Campus Manager and Learning and Development Lead on a regular basis to ensure you are on track to success.

New Zealand Certificate in Adult & Tertiary Teaching Level 4

The New Zealand Certificate in Adult & Tertiary Teaching (Level 4) is made of 4 modules delivered over 40 weeks. All Modules will be delivered via MS Teams in a blended learning environment (Modules 01, 02, 03 & 04).

The first live sessions will take place via Teams. These live sessions with our Facilitator will run for about an hour and will be recorded. If you are unable to join this session, you can watch the recording afterwards. This will not affect your course experience.

  • Upload your documents
  • On the Payment Page, choose “Pay later by Invoice” – enter Campus and Team Leader (this course is free for all teaching staff)

  • I cannot join the live sessions because I am teaching at the time it is scheduled. What do I do?
All sessions/classes will be recorded and saved in your Teams group, and you will be able to watch them later on.
  • Should I enrol using my work or personal email?
Please use your work email to enrol for this course.
  • You already have all my documents on Bamboo HR. Can you not take it from them?
No! We do not have access to your information on Bamboo HR, and since your files contain confidential information, only HR and your Line Manager have access to it. Please provide a verified ID with your application.
  • Who can verify my ID?
Your ID can be verified on your campus by your Campus Administrator, Campus Manager, Team Leaders and/or Receptionists.
  • I teach in the blended space. Who can verify my ID, then?
In this case, your ID can be verified by a Solicitor, Justice of the Peace, Registrar/Deputy Registrar of any District Court, Kaumatua, Police Officer, Minister of Religion, Registered Medical Professional or your Online Campus Staff.
  • Can I apply for CATT Level 5 instead of Level 4?
No. We only provide CATT Course Level 4. For Level 5, please contact your Team Leader for information as this is arranged by an external provider.

Observations

What is an observation?

  • A way to grow and develop through feedback
  • Part of our Adult Education Qualification
  • Learning and Development Team are looking for Quality Experience Standards for our students
  • Looking at the overall picture of the classroom

What should you do during an observation?

  • Continue with your facilitation as usual
  • The observer will not ask questions or interrupt your class

How often will you be observed?

  • As often as possible
  • Minimum of once a month within your first year (as part of your PDP)
  • Minimum of 10 minutes but can be up to a full day

Moderation

The overall goal of moderation is to ensure the following:

  1. Assessment materials allow learners the opportunity to achieve the learning outcome(s)
  2. Assessors are making accurate and consistent judgements about learner performance.
  3. Assessors are provided valid constructive feedback and support for continuous improvement of professional practice.

During your first couple of months on campus, you will be supported by a “buddy” or L&D Lead who will help you through the marking process and your marking. It can take time to become confident with marking your students' assessment process; however, please refer to the Moderation Toolkit or your L&D Lead, who will be happy to answer your questions.

During your first year at NZMA, and as part of your PDP, you will have a minimum of three samples of your assessments moderated. You will be provided feedback from the moderation and any action points should there be any areas of development.

Diary Pages

In line with your Professional Development Plan, we would like you to keep a diary for 20 days of tutoring. The diary provides a great tool to prepare and reflect on your teaching sessions. It is also a way that the Learning and Development Lead (LDL) can support you as a new Tutor as you develop skills and expertise in the classroom. The LDL will use the diary to help you reflect on your day and to share ideas and experiences with you.

Please ensure that the LDL know which days you are completing the diary so they can ensure they are available for you. Note that diaries 10 – 16 include responding to things you previously noted need improving. Plan for this when you prepare the sessions you are going to diary.

Diaries 17 – 20 involve you observing other tutors. You may do these out of sequence if it is more convenient or there is a special opportunity.

Please include at least five photos of your theming and classroom set-up and students engaged in an activity.

The Tutor diary will support you with your teaching in a variety of ways. It will keep your focus on the key areas that you should be considering in your teaching practice each day and is an important tool for you to refer back to in the future.

It forms part of the portfolio of evidence you need to complete so that you gain the New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching Level 4.
