This certificate will enable you to lead effective teams to help organisations in New Zealand meet their objectives. Throughout this course, you will develop the knowledge and skills required to supervise and manage a workplace team.

2 Business Operations

This module provides learners with the skills to manage workflows and processes in a business environment. Learners will identify and respond to potential and/or actual issues that contribute to entity management.

Assess and respond appropriately to actual and/or potential issues that contribute to entity management and objectives.

LO2.3

Explain effective workflow processes to support and achieve team objectives.

3 People and Culture

This module provides learners with an understanding of People and Culture in a workplace. Learners will learn about workplace communication, leadership and leadership styles and effective management qualities that are useful in front-line management roles.

Apply leadership styles effectively in different environments.

Apply professional behaviours to lead a team and manage workflow for an entity.

4 Staff Management

This module provides learners with an understanding of managing staff workflows and motivational strategies to lead a team in order to meet organisational objectives. In this course, supervising the performance of individuals in front-line roles for monitoring, development and training in a business environment is also covered.

Manage staff workflows and processes to achieve team objectives in an operational context.

Apply motivational strategies to lead a team to meet objectives.

How will you learn?

Learning hours are asynchronous. This means you complete them in your own time. There is no set class time, and learning takes place at different times for students/ ākonga enrolled in the programme. You are encouraged to interact with other students/ ākonga through forums and group messaging. Keep in mind that not everyone likes to study when you do, so you may need to wait for a response.

Total learning hours are 600 hours. That is about 33.5 hours per week or 16.5 hours of part-time study, including self-directed learning hours.

The learning hours include:

  • reading, watching, and completing the activities on the online campus
  • completing assessments
  • self-directed practicals.

Assessments/ Aromatawai

A total of 60 credits are awarded for the programme.

There are four (4) assessments to complete, one for each of the four modules that make up this course. Assessments will be awarded an achieved or not achieved result. All learning outcomes must be met to obtain an achieved result. All assessments must be completed in full, with all answers correct, for an achieved result.

Assessments are recorded as follows:

  • Achieved – all work/unit has been achieved to the standards set in the assessment and performance criteria.
  • Not Achieved – the student/ākonga has yet to complete the relevant work to be awarded the assessment or unit.

Studying at Level 4

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

  • Manage workflows in an operational context to achieve team objectives.
  • Assess actual and/or potential issue(s) and respond appropriately to entity management to contribute to entity objectives.
  • Motivate a team to achieve the team’s objectives and contribute to the entity’s objectives.
  • Communicate to develop effective relationships with team members and stakeholders.
  • Promote an inclusive environment to value diversity for positive performance for the entity.
  • Apply leadership styles effectively in different environments.
  • Behave professionally and ethically and in a socially and culturally responsible manner and apply personal and interpersonal skills to lead teams and manage workflows for the performance of the entity.

A graduate of a Level 4 certificate will:

  • Have a broad operational and theoretical knowledge in a field of work or study.
  • Be able to select and apply solutions to familiar and unfamiliar problems.
  • Be able to select and apply a range of standard and non-standard processes relevant to the field of study.
  • Be able to show self-management of learning and performance under broad guidance.
  • Be able to show some responsibility for the performance of others.
