Kia ora and welcome to Design Principles and Tools!
This section contains information that applies to all of the courses. The ideas, knowledge, and software skills will be used in activities throughout the programme. Unlike the following four courses, this one has no assessment, however the skills you learn in this course will be assessed in each of the following courses.
Think of this as a practical lab where you learn:
- design principles and techniques
- the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite of design tools
- additional tools for creative careers.

How to work through your programme
Start with this course, Design Principles and Tools, and work your way through the design principles that are common to all modes of design. This section will provide learning about Design that crosses Animation, Film, Graphic Design, and App and Web Design.
Before you move onto the Animation course, do all of the reading and activities in:
- Overview
- Elements of Design
- Principles of Design
- Composition
If you like, move on to Install Adobe Creative Cloud and any of the Adobe products you want to tackle at this point. But, as you progress, we will point you back to this course when you need to learn a skill before using it in an activity in the main content courses.
