A construction project requires human and physical resources that meet both construction needs and compliance requirements. Regardless of its size, it is expected to undergo necessary variations from the original design, which is specified in the contract scope of work. The selection of suppliers and contractors has a direct impact on the success of the project, and efficient communication with these stakeholders is key to ensure availability of critical resources and avoid delays.

Once requirements have been established, they need to be documented and readily accessible. This process includes preparing the necessary documentation to ensure the efficiency of construction works, breaking down the project into stages and tasks, and itemising the project's identified material and labour requirements.

Many aspects of the project such as costs, timelines, variations, and issues need to be monitored and recorded throughout its completion to allow visibility on what has been estimated against the actual realisation of the project.
