What are Travel Motivators?

There are 5 main reasons that motivate a tourist to travel.

Some tourists are inspired to see how people in other countries live and work; to see particular sights, monuments and works of art; they are motivated by the possibility of gaining a better understanding of current events, and to attend special culture or artistic events.

This is a common reason for when the tourist desires to get away from their everyday routine and obligations. They are motivated by the possibility of seeing new places or people, gaining new experiences, unwind and to have fun.

This motivator focuses on the mental and physical health of the tourist in addition to participating in recreational activities such as swimming, jogging, surfing, yoga, meditation, bushwalking, boating and more.

This is when people are motivated by the possibility to visit the place their family originated, to visit relatives and friends, and to spend time with family and children.

The social motive gives reason for travelling in company, such as with family and friends or your partner.

Additionally, the competitive motive is for people who want to be able to talk about places visited because it is ‘fashionable’ to be well-travelled and to show that one can afford it. Examples of this competitive travel is for status and often used my social media influences, to promote or flaunt their travel destination.
