Your modules for study have been carefully selected to provide you with a solid foundation from which to move forward as you launch or advance your career.

In this module you will be looking at the role of critical thinking in the workplace. You will be analysing work processes and determining solutions using critical thinking concepts. You will review decision making practices, present your proposal, seek feedback and identify areas for self-development.

This module is about understanding current methods of collaboration, reviewing existing digital technology and identifying opportunities for implementing digital technologies for workplace collaboration in a world where distance and time zones need no longer be barriers to effective teamwork.

In this module you will see what it takes to establish, develop and maintain effective work relationships and networks. This starts by looking at the business development goals of the organisation, reviewing the opportunities available for building business contacts and building on those contacts using written and verbal communication. Once the relationship is established, you will move on to developing rapport, identifying barriers and negotiating through difficulties to maintain and improve those relationships.

This module introduces you to both the practical and legislative requirements of work health and safety. It begins with providing information to the work team about WHS policies, procedures, hazards and outcomes of risk assessments. It goes on to discuss consultation mechanisms to facilitate work team participation in managing work area hazards and identifying and meeting the training needs of team members. The module also covers the procedures and legal requirements for identifying hazards and assessing and controlling risks, and finally addresses organisational procedures for maintaining WHS records.

You will learn how to plan complex documents taking into consideration your audience, the purpose of the document and your organisation’s policies and procedures. You will cover formatting, content overview and the logical sequencing of information. You will develop a draft document that satisfies the defined purpose and requirements and then identify gaps in the required data, collecting additional material from relevant sources if required. Lastly, you will see what it takes to finalise a complex document. You will check to see whether the document’s purpose and requirements have been met and check grammar, spelling, style and punctuation. The final steps are to confirm approval of the draft text, incorporate any amendments into the final copy, apply basic design elements, check the document and confirm all requirements are met.

This module covers how best to prepare for communication, what planning needs to be done and the importance of feedback. It describes the different types of communication you are likely to need in an Australian workplace and provides you with the opportunity to select presentation methods and communication strategies based on the requirements of the audience. This module also discusses the use of interpersonal skills, problem solving and decision-making skills to build relationships and to facilitate respectful communication considering the needs of those from diverse backgrounds.

In this module you will be looking at what it takes to stay healthy in the workplace. You will identify factors that may impact your own physical and mental health, research strategies for health management and review resources available to you. You will also be looking at the legislation and organisational policies and procedures relating to health and wellbeing. This will lead into the development of strategies for managing personal health and wellbeing, sharing these strategies with relevant personnel and scheduling activities that align with those strategies. Finally, you will understand the importance of monitoring your own performance, identifying changes in circumstances and reviewing and updating your personal strategies as needed.

This module will help you achieve stakeholders’ desired outcomes in a project support role. It begins with establishing the procurement requirements according to project objectives and contributing to the development the procurement-management plan and documentation. You will then gather and evaluate information on potential suppliers and make recommendations and assist in their selection. Assisting in establishing agreed terms and conditions and developing contractual documentation follows. Once suppliers are in place, it is necessary to test and accept supplies and confirm fit for purpose in both quality and suitability and maintain information according to reporting, confidentiality and audit requirements. You will receive, reconcile and register supplies, monitor and control suppliers and relevant documentation. Lastly, you will assist in finalising procurement activities, reviewing project outcomes to determine effectiveness and contribute to making changes to project procurement procedures based on feedback received.

This module covers the skills and knowledge required to identify suppliers, determine procurement methods, establish a plan and prepare for procurement activities. The first step is to establish the goods and services to be procured. This involves determining what goods and services are required and then obtaining specifications from relevant personnel. Research is then required to identify suppliers and procurement methods. The second step is to consider the scope and function of the goods and services, identify outcomes, objectives and logistics and develop a time frame and schedule for tender. Measurable outputs must also be created for desired contractual outcomes. Market analysis is conducted to identify suppliers, a request developed for quotation documentation and suppliers are invited to bid. Suppliers are then reviewed, and recommendations made. Finally, the procurement plan must be managed – a process which includes developing key performance indicators (KPIs), monitoring performance and consulting with stakeholders through all stages of the development of the procurement plan. Important objectives are to achieve efficiency, effectiveness and transparency in the procurement process.

In this module you will develop the skills required to select preferred providers through a formal request for offer (RFO) process. The module includes sections on evaluating offers, undertaking clarification and negotiation of matters contained in offers and obtaining approvals. Developing a contract allows both parties to fully understand their obligations, define intellectual property and key success criteria. You will look at structuring contracts to capture and address identified risks, protect both parties and provide the basis for expected standards of behaviour. You will assist in developing and formalising contractual arrangements and debriefing the market and other stakeholders.

This module takes you through the process of confirming and clarifying contract requirements, approval and funding arrangements and identifying obligations and limits of authority. It includes developing or reviewing the risk management plan and confirming and implementing start-up or transition arrangements. Reference is also made to the need to obtain specialist expertise as necessary for progress meetings and for advice on or resolution of contract issues. You will learn the importance of maintaining contract information and documentation, monitoring and maintaining contract performance and completing and reviewing contracts.
