Welcome to CUAGRD501- Research Visual Communication History and Theory. This module will develop your skills and knowledge required to research visual communication history and theory and to apply that knowledge to your own professional practice.

As you begin to develop visual analysis skills, you will be able to extract key ideas and information from a range of contextual examples, and to communicate your own ideas effectively across a range of contexts. 

There are four (4) areas of study associated with this module. These are:

  • Select focus for research – which allows you to tailor your own focus for visual communication research based on your own needs and perspectives
  • Conduct critical analysis – which allows you to identify and evaluate the ways in which meanings and messages are communicated in both a historical and contemporary context
  • Present ideas about visual communication history and theory – which allows you to explore and make informed contributions about visual communication history and theory, while also exploring how to document and present clear and accurate ideas, and:
  • Develop your own practice from your research – which amongst other things, allows you to integrate visual communication history and theory with your own professional practice.
