What has eSports got to do with a jazz singer from the early 20th century?! The common ground is resilience and self-reflection. Let's start your journey through Introduction to eSports; ask yourself, "Do you have what it takes to be your best?"
Welcome to Module 1 where we start with the basics - an opportunity to introduce you to the world of eSports. You will learn about the roles of a coach and player and familiarise yourselves with the skills and knowledge necessary to become part of the eSports industry.
The topics covered in Module 1 Performance Skills for eSports will include:
- the eSports industry
- player and coach roles
- communication in a team context
- player and coach mindsets
- core game skills and strategy development
- competitive game psychology
- physical and psychological wellbeing of players
- dealing with defeat
- self-reflection and peer evaluation strategies

These Module Learning Outcomes are guides to the strategies and transferable skills that you will grow over the course. When you complete Module 1 Performance Skills for eSports you will be able to:
- Work collaboratively in teams to set and achieve learning goals in an eSports context.
What this means for you:- Collaboration with your peers will help prepare you for the real world of eSports. Being part of the community and collaborating with others is critical to achieving greatness, whether it be as a player, a coach, or the many other roles in the eSports industry.
- Select and use authoritative sources of information to inform performance skill development.
What this means for you:- Being able to source information is a relevant skill, no matter what industry you are working in. In eSports, it is important to consider expertise and make informed choices.
- Identify potential constraints on eSports skill development and set goals accordingly.
What this means for you:- Developing goal setting strategies to recognise how and what you need to grow is a crucial reflective skill whichever future path you decide to follow.
- Evaluate own suitability as an eSports player or coach, based on demonstrated strengths and weaknesses.
What this means for you:- By identifying your personal strengths and weaknesses, you will be able to judge which direction you want to be headed in. Reflection and evaluation will not only allow you to reach your potential, but it may also even open doors you did not know were there.
We have organised a great team for you to collaborate with. With your teammates, you will coordinate your research and create group PowerPoint which are part of your eSports assessment for Modules 1, 2, 3 and 4. You will continuously document all your learning and reflection in your eSports Portfolio Checkpoints. You will also have the opportunity to reflect on your learning and how you can apply your new skills in an interview discussion with your tutor.
In Module 5 you will then collaborate with the wider team to run Module 5’s capstone assessment – the eSports Event - GLHF!!!
