Module Overview

Kia Ora, and congratulations on starting Electrical Pre-Trade Level 3 at NZMA

Get ready to discover the exciting world of electricity in this 35-week programme. We will provide you with practical skills, in-depth knowledge and hands on training that will set you up for a career in electrical trades.  The online part of this course will provide you with background knowledge to compliment your on-campus practical learning.

Be prepared to bring an appetite to learn, a hands-on attitude and a love of Hi-Vis. You will learn from your expert teacher, spending most of your time on the NZMA campus - but rest assured you will also meet with industry professionals and learn from the best in the business.

To support your classroom learning you will be required to complete the work on this online learning platform. It won’t be boring homework but will help you expand your know-how and awareness of the electrical industry.

TOP TIP: Stay focused, come early to class every day and stay on top of your online course work and projects. The industry wants job-ready people.

Studying at Level 3

A certificate at level 3 qualifies individuals with knowledge and skills for a specific role(s) within fields/areas of work and/or preparation for further study.

A graduate of Level 3 is able to:

  • demonstrate some operational and theoretical knowledge in a field of work or study
  • select from and apply a range of known solutions to familiar problems
  • apply a range of standard processes relevant to the field of work or study
  • apply a range of communication skills relevant to the role in the field of work or study

  • I know how to work safely and understand the safety requirements in the electrical trades sector and can do first aid.
  • I communicate confidently and professionally with other tradies, my workmates and customers.
  • Studying was pretty tough, but I’ve got great time management skills now. 
  • I'm down with the laws and legislations that keep me, my colleagues and my customers safe.
  • I am confident in safely using tools and equipment.
  • Installing cables and electrical equipment comes quickly to me now.
  • I can test for electrical safety and diagnose faults.
