Welcome to Plant Care and Water Management, the seventh and final module in the programme.

You will have built up a lot of knowledge and plants since you started this course and should be proud to have come this far. You will have had easy wins and bigger challenges with your soil, irrigation, plant choices, and positioning,

As the name suggests, this module is divided into two main subjects:

  • how we manage soil water to make sure our plants have enough
  • plant care — more broadly.

The topics on soil water management will help you to complete your final assessment, which involves investigating water management systems used in horticulture operations.

The topics on plant care build on what we’ve already learned in the earlier parts of the programme, and introduce a few new concepts, such as training fruit trees.

Okay, let’s dive into it!

Time to complete this module

You should plan to complete this module in 105 hours

Assessment outline

In this module, you’ll continue journaling about your garden each week. To finish this module, you needs to complete two assessment tasks:

  1. Garden Journal – explain what you’ve been doing in the garden each week and upload photos to show how you’ve managed plants through their lifecycle.
  2. Water Management Report – visit two (2) horticulture operations and write a report describing the water management systems found at each site.

Scroll to the bottom of this module and open each of the assessments to read more.

Remember, we're here to help!

As mentioned in earlier modules:

  1. It's ok to make mistakes. When we make mistakes, we can learn from them by thinking "what went wrong?" and "what can I do differently next time?". In fact, these are the kinds of questions and answers we'd like to see in your Garden Journal.
  2. Help is available! If something doesn't make sense, or you're unsure what to do next, ask a peer using Messaging on the Online Campus, check the forums for others that have asked the same questions, or get in touch with your Tutor. You can send them a message on the Online Campus or get in touch via email.

While the course is designed for you to work independently, please don't be afraid to ask questions.
