Welcome to the Institute of Allied Health and the HLT57715 Diploma of Practice Management course!

This comprehensive program is designed to provide you with the essential skills and knowledge required to work as an allied health assistant. Whether you're entering the healthcare field for the first time or seeking to enhance your existing allied health skills, this course will equip you with the necessary competencies to support allied health professionals in delivering high-quality healthcare services.

About this Course:

This course contains 15 Units of Competency (spread across 15 modules), all of which must be completed in order to achieve the qualification of HLT57715 Diploma of Practice Management. You will access each unit sequentially through modules, as you complete the theory-based assessments for each, the next module will open for you.  The total Work Placement hours for this course is 240 hours which also includes the practical skills demonstration in a workplace environment. 

This course is self-paced and designed to be completed asynchronously. The duration may vary based on individual learning preferences and prior experience. You have a maximum of five (5) years from the date of enrolment to complete your course. You can study your course on a full-time, part-time, or self-paced basis. Indicatively, full-time study of the course will take approximately 12 months.

Throughout the program, you'll have the opportunity to develop knowledge and a range of important skills, including communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. Each module will follow standard patterns.

  • Modules - each unit will be displayed as a module and is where you access your learning and assessment

    • Topics - the content will be separated into topics and sub-topics and provides you with the learning required for the unit.

    • Learning Activities - within each topic, you will be presented with learning activities for you to complete. These may include reflection tasks or even a short quiz. These activities are not graded but are important for you to ensure you have understood the content and are ready for assessment.

    • Assessments - At the end of each module there will be assessments for you to complete.

Work Placement is an important part of this qualification as it provides you with the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge you gain throughout the course in a real workplace environment. Work Placement is a compulsory part of the qualification and in order to achieve this qualification, you must complete a total of 240  hours of work in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements. The work placement involves an average of 12 hours per week in the workplace with some time spent at home completing activities that contribute to assessment. 

Your work placement will be conducted at the end of the qualification and will refer to all units covered in this qualification. For more information regarding work placement, the process, roles responsibilities, and frequently asked questions refer to the Work Placement Guidelines document.

1 HLTWHS004 Manage work health and safety 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish, maintain and evaluate work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area, according to WHS legislative requirements.

This unit applies to workers who have responsibility for WHS as part of their role, including workers with obligations under WHS legislation, persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs), or their officers (as defined by relevant legislation).

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

2 CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people  2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

This unit applies to all workers.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander Cultural Safety 

The unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety issues in the workplace, model cultural safety in own work practice, and develop strategies to enhance cultural safety.

This unit applies to people working in a broad range of roles including those involved in direct client service, program planning, development and evaluation contexts.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

3 BSBWOR502 Lead and manage team effectiveness 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead teams in the workplace and to actively engage with the management of the organisation.

It applies to individuals working at a managerial level who facilitate work teams and build a positive culture within their work teams. At this level, work will normally be carried out using complex and diverse methods and procedures requiring the exercise of considerable discretion and judgement, using a range of problem solving and decision making strategies.

4 BSBMGT502 Manage people performance 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage the performance of staff who report to them directly. Development of key result areas and key performance indicators and standards, coupled with regular and timely coaching and feedback, provide the basis for performance management.

It applies to individuals who manage people. It covers work allocation and the methods to review performance, reward excellence and provide feedback where there is a need for improvement.

The unit makes the link between performance management and performance development, and reinforces both functions as a key requirement for effective managers.

5 BSBCUS501 Manage quality customer service 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop strategies to manage organisational systems that ensure products and services are delivered and maintained to standards agreed by the organisation.

It applies to individuals who supervise the provision of quality customer service within an organisation’s procedures framework by others. At this level, individuals must exercise considerable discretion and judgement, using a range of problem solving and decision making strategies.

6 CHCLEG003 Manage legal and ethical compliance 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research information about compliance and ethical practice responsibilities, and then develop and monitor policies and procedures to meet those responsibilities.

This unit applies to people working in roles with managerial responsibility for legal and ethical compliance in small to medium sized organisations. There may or may not be a team of workers involved.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

7 BSBRSK501 Manage risk 2

This unit describes skills and knowledge required to manage risks in a range of contexts across an organisation or for a specific business unit or area in any industry setting.

It applies to individuals who are working in positions of authority and are approved to implement change across the organisation, business unit, program or project area. They may or may not have responsibility for directly supervising others.

8 BSBFIM501 Manage budgets and financial plans 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake financial management within a work team in an organisation. It includes planning and implementing financial management approaches, supporting team members whose role involves aspects of financial operations, monitoring and controlling finances and reviewing and evaluating effectiveness of financial management processes.

It applies to managers in a wide range of organisations and sectors who have responsibility for ensuring that work team financial resources are used effectively and are managed in line with financial objectives of the team and organisation.

9 CHCPOL002 Develop and implement policy 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research, develop and implement new policy initiatives.

This unit applies to workers who are directly responsible for driving new policy directives across a business unit, team or service.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

10 BSBHRM506 Manage recruitment selection and induction processes 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage all aspects of recruitment selection and onboarding processes in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.

The unit applies to individuals who take responsibility for managing aspects of recruiting, selecting new staff and orientating those staff in their new positions. It is not assumed  that the individual will be directly involved in the selection processes themselves, although this may well be the case.

11 BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to understand and respond to instructions; to carry out routine tasks and communicate with a range of internal/external clients in a medical environment; as well as use appropriate medical terminology.

It applies to individuals who apply a broad range of competencies in various medical administration contexts. They may exercise discretion and judgment using appropriate knowledge to provide technical advice and support to a team.

12 HLTADM004 Manage health billing and accounting system 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to implement and monitor a billing and accounting system in a health practice, with consideration of client accessibility, practice viability and regulatory and legislative requirements.

This unit applies to health practice administrators working in a coordination or management role.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

13 HLTINF007 Implement and monitor infection prevention control policies and procedures 2

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to provide information about infection prevention and control procedures, integrate those procedures into work practices and monitor workplace performance.

This unit applies to individuals working in a range of industry and work settings, who have a coordination, work group leadership or supervisory responsibility in relation to infection prevention and control.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

14 CHCPRP003 Reflect and improve own professional practice 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to evaluate and enhance own practice through a process of reflection and ongoing professional development.

This unit applies to workers in all industry sectors who take pro-active responsibility for their own professional development.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

15 ** Work Placement  1 You will undertake 240 hours of work placement at an approved workplace and will perform practical demonstrations of skills you have learned in this course.
