Welcome to the Institute of Allied Health and the HLT37315 Certificate III in Health Administration course!

This comprehensive program is designed to provide you with the essential skills and knowledge required to work as an allied health assistant. Whether you're entering the healthcare field for the first time or seeking to enhance your existing allied health skills, this course will equip you with the necessary competencies to support allied health professionals in delivering high-quality healthcare services.

About this Course:

This course contains 13 Units of Competency all of which must be completed in order to achieve the qualification of HLT37315 Certificate III in  Health Administration. You will access each unit sequentially through modules, as you complete the theory-based assessments for each, the next module will open for you. 

This course is self-paced and designed to be completed asynchronously. The duration may vary based on individual learning preferences and prior experience. You have a maximum of five (5) years from the date of enrolment to complete your course. You can study your course on a full-time, part-time, or self-paced basis. Indicatively, full-time study of the course will take approximately 12 months.

Throughout the program, you'll have the opportunity to develop knowledge and a range of important skills, including communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. Each module will follow standard patterns.

  • Modules - each unit will be displayed as a module and is where you access your learning and assessment

    • Topics - the content will be separated into topics and sub-topics and provides you with the learning required for the unit.

    • Learning Activities - within each topic, you will be presented with learning activities for you to complete. These may include reflection tasks or even a short quiz. These activities are not graded but are important for you to ensure you have understood the content and are ready for assessment.

    • Assessments - At the end of each module there will be assessments for you to complete.

Certain Units of Competencies within this qualification will require you to perform the skills you have learned by way of a practical demonstration. IAH facilitates practical demonstrations through a variety of options for you to complete these practical assessments, including:

  • through small group workshops (online) OR
  • private one-on-one assessments (in person or online) OR
  • submitting a video recording.

1 HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety 1

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for workers to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety, and that of others.

The unit applies to all workers who require knowledge of workplace health and safety (WHS) to carry out their own work, either under direct supervision or with some individual responsibility.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

2 CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people  1

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

This unit applies to all workers.

3 ** CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish relationships, clarify needs, and then work collaboratively with people who are living with mental health issues.

This unit applies to support workers in contexts outside the mental health sector, but who come into contact with people with mental health issues. The services and support provided are not mental health specific.

4 CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically 1

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify and work within the legal and ethical frameworks that apply to an individual job role.

This unit applies to community services and health workers who play a proactive role in identifying and meeting their legal and ethical responsibilities.

5 BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately  1

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to understand and respond to instructions; to carry out routine tasks and communicate with a range of internal/external clients in a medical environment; as well as use appropriate medical terminology.

It applies to individuals who apply a broad range of competencies in various medical administration contexts. They may exercise discretion and judgment using appropriate knowledge to provide technical advice and support to a team.

6 ** CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, management and other industry providers.

This unit applies to a range of health and community service contexts where workers may communicate face-to-face, in writing or using digital media and work with limited responsibility under direct or indirect supervision.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

7 ** CHCCCS020 Respond effectively to behaviours of concern  2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to respond effectively to behaviours of concern of people. Skills are associated with handling difficult incidents rather than managing ongoing behaviour difficulties.

The unit applies to workers in any context exposed to difficult and challenging behaviour.

8 HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control 1

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to apply basic infection prevention and control principles in work settings including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions and responding to risks.

This unit applies to individuals working in a range of industry and work setting contexts.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

9 ** BSBFLM309 Support continuous improvement systems and processes 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support continuous improvement in an organisation's continuous improvement systems and processes. Particular emphasis is on actively encouraging teams to participate in the process, monitoring and reporting on specified outcomes and supporting opportunities for further improvements.

The unit applies to individuals who use initiative, and organisational and communication skills to influence the ongoing development of the organisation.

10 ** BSBOPS304 Deliver and monitor a service to customers 2

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify customer needs, deliver and monitor customer service and identify improvements in the provision of customer service.

The unit applies to those who apply a broad range of competencies in various work contexts. In this role, individuals often exercise discretion and judgement using appropriate knowledge of customer service. They provide technical advice and support to customers over short or long-term interactions.

11 BSBMED302 Prepare and process medical accounts 1

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide advice to patients regarding fee structures and process referrals, as well as prepare and process medical accounts for a range of patients.

This unit applies to individuals who apply a broad range of competencies in various medical administration contexts. They may exercise discretion and judgement using appropriate knowledge to provide technical advice and support to a team.

12 BSBMED303 Maintain patient records 1

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to maintain patient records within an existing medical records management system, under the supervision of a senior receptionist or practice manager.

It applies to individuals who apply a broad range of competencies in various medical administration contexts. They are skilled operators who are expected to exercise discretion and judgement in accessing and maintaining patient records while fully respecting patient privacy and the confidentiality of their details.

** Indicates the requirement of the practical demonstration of skills and knowledge in a simulated work environment. A variety of options are available to complete practical assessments including through small group workshops (online) or private one-on-one assessments (in person or online) or submitting a video recording.

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING HLTAID011 Provide First Aid 
IAH Does not offer the training or assessment for this unit and students must complete this at a recognised provider and provide evidence of attainment in order to meet the requirements for this qualification.
