Welcome to Module 5, where you will learn about community health roles and organisations that employ community health support workers.
You will learn about the factors contributing to the need for support services and the range of people you might work with.
You will develop some of the professional skills required, including communication and leadership skills. You will also examine legislation and safety practices related to your community support worker role. The module will also explore professional development and employment opportunities as a community support worker.
You will learn about tools and strategies to support autonomy and self-determination. Tools include the use of personal plans, learning plans, legislation and health models. Strategies include mentoring and facilitation, working in a multidisciplinary team and community participation.
Practical skills for providing support, such as lifting, bathing and feeding, will be covered, along with information on the basic requirements for good health.
