This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage all aspects of the recruitment, selection and induction processes in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.

3.    Manage staff induction 3.1.    Provide access to training and ongoing support for all persons engaged in staff induction
3.2.    Check that induction processes are followed across the organisation
3.3.    Oversee the management of probationary employees and provide them with feedback until their employment is confirmed or terminated
3.4.    Obtain feedback from participants and relevant managers on the extent to which the induction process is meeting its objectives
3.5.    Make refinements to induction policies and procedures

  • Describe recruitment and selection methods, including assessment centres
  • Explain the concept of outsourcing
  • Describe the purpose of employee contracts and industrial relations
  • Summarise relevant legislation, regulations, standards and codes of practice that may affect recruitment, selection and induction
  • Explain why terms and conditions of employment are an important aspect of recruitment
  • Explain the relevance of psychometric and skills testing programs to recruitment.

This unit is designed to teach you how to manage recruitment, selection and induction processes in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.

Overview of Sections

Section 1: Develop Recruitment, Selection and Induction Policies and Procedures

In this section, you will learn how to develop organisational policies and procedures in relation to recruitment, selection, and induction. You will learn how to analyse an organisation’s strategic plans to identify relevant business objectives and existing policies and procedures related to recruitment, selection, and induction. With this knowledge, you will then learn how to identify policies and procedures that need to be developed or updated. You will also learn about the legislative requirements of recruitment and selection and how to apply this information in order to ensure that the policies and procedures you develop conform to all legislative requirements. Finally, you will learn how to trial policies, obtain senior management support, and effectively communicate policies to the wider organisation.

Section 2: Recruit and Select Staff

In this section, you will learn how to undertake the recruitment and selection process. You will learn how to determine future human resource needs in collaboration with relevant managers and how to follow the recruitment and selection process by defining requirements, attracting candidates and then selecting candidates. You will also learn about the importance of providing training and support for all staff involved in the recruitment and selection process.

Section 3: Manage Staff Induction

In this final section you will learn how to manage the induction process. You will learn ways that you can monitor induction processes across an organisation through checklists, reviews, discussions and meetings as well as providing access to training and ongoing support for all persons engaged in staff induction. You will also learn about the importance of evaluating induction processes, overseeing the management of probationary employees, and providing regular feedback. Finally, you will learn how to identify potential issues with induction processes and how to make any necessary refinements.
