Welcome to your learning checkpoint for HLTWHS004- Manage work health and safety. 

To begin, let's review some examples of some WH&S Policies from medical practices across Australia. This will give you a good understanding how a policy looks like whilst adhering to the state and territories WH&S relgulations and legislation.

Look at the images below. Review them and identify what potential hazards might be in the picture.

Some potential Work Health and Safety issues are:

  • making sure the tables are able to be raised to ensure that staff don't have to bend over
  • If staff need to sit, have chairs available for them 
  • Tables are locked and can easily be unlocked if they need to be 
  • Trays are secure and filled 
  • Emergency plans and procedures on the walls for patients

Some potential Work Health and Safety issues are: 

  • Making sure there is enough space between the bed and the bench 
  • The carpet can be a potential hazard with the stool and patients 
  • The sink near electrical equipment and outlets 
  • Access to medications
