Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmityWorld Health Organization
What has physical health and wellbeing got to do with eSports? Well… everything. A healthy body, through diet and exercise, is known to increase productivity and release endorphins, often evoking a sense of motivation. A healthy mind nurtures function, determination, and willpower. You see, the physical and the mental are one- a revolving circle where each impacts the other.
Welcome to Module 1, where we start with the foundations of success in eSports for business. To begin with, we will direct our focus on your health and well-being. Whether you are an elite athlete, a business operator, an eSports coach or Shoutcaster, you need to maintain your physical and mental health and well-being.
Throughout this course, you will be stocking your inventory with the skills and knowledge to inspire others to lead, coach and equip them with skills and knowledge to create their own brand or business venture.
You must care for your health and well-being before teaching this to others. Leading by example is essential. While actively caring for your health, leading others will come organically, and the experience will be authentic.
You will learn the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to strive towards creating your brand within the eSports world.
Throughout this module you will learn:

Consider what drives and motivates you and complete the following activity.
Growing is a process. We are who we are because of a compilation of events. The more challenging the event was the more we pushed ourselves. Sometimes we could overcome them and sometimes we succumb to them. Independently on the outcome, we came out a different person with more experience under our belt.
We need challenges for growth, and goal setting is a great controlled way to do so. Think about this: How can you be challenged if we do not know the limits of your own capabilities? How do we truly know what we could be capable of?
Goal setting is a valuable tool that help us to properly motivate, track and orientate us to achieve what we aspire to become.
Some of you may already be familiar with goal setting. If this is a new concept, let us take a look at how to set goals using the S.M.A.R.T Goals process.
S.M.A.R.T Goals
S.M.A.R.T – is an acronym that you can use to guide your goal setting. – Formatting goals using this concept gives the coach and athletes a clear understanding of success and failure in regard to the goal. You looked at these in Level 3 – let’s quickly review what S.M.A.R.T. means.
- Specific (simple, sensible, significant and appropriate to the person setting the goal).
- Measurable (how long you spent exercising or how long you implemented dietary changes).
- Achievable (agreed, attainable).
- Relevant (reasonable, realistic, and resourced, results-based).
- Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).
Specific
Specific: This gives clarity to your goal and help hone in your efforts. Answering the four W’s is a must when being specific. The four W’s are:
- What do I want to accomplish?
- Why is this goal important?
- Who is involved?
- Where is it located?
Example 1: I want to be Radiant rank and ready to help carry my team through to the top 10 teams of VALORANT champions 2023
Example 2: I want to shoot 100% 3-point shots (with at least 3 shoot attempts) in at least 2 games of next year’s basketball season to say thank you to my coaches who stayed with me after training to help me.
Measurable
Measurable: This is all about tracking your progress, staying motivated and keeping yourself accountable. Feel the excitement getting closer to achieving your goal.
Example 1: I want to track how long I stay in each rank and how my team does during the tournament year.
Example 2: I will track the percentage of 3-point shots I complete during training, after training and in my own time.
Achievable
Achievable: Is the goal achievable? If we use example 1 from earlier, are they setting this goal from being unranked and still a novice in Valorant or is he already an experienced player both online and in tournament? If the goal is unachievable scale the goal back a bit before targeting the harder goal.
Relevant
Relevant: Does the goal make sense, does it align with any other goals you have, and does it matter to you? A relevant goal should answer yes to one or more of these questions:
- Does this seem worthwhile?
- Is this the right time?
- Does this match our other efforts/needs?
- Am I the right person to reach this goal?
Time-bound
Time-bound: Every goal needs a target date (deadline). Not just having an end date - you can also set milestones for S.M.A.R.T. goals. What will my 3 months look like? 6 months? 12 months etc.
Example #1 – In 6 months, I want to rank up at least 3-4 times and in 8 months, another 2 ranks.
Example #2 – Last day of second week I will shoot 10 shots from the 3-point line to mark my progress.
