SUBJECT OVERVIEW

This course investigates product development and change in the hospitality industry and considers a range of strategic responses that have emerged in New Zealand and Internationally. There are two main aspects to this course being

  1. the skill sessions AND
  2. key content –trends and responding to change

 

The main course focuses on current industry trends, what trends are being developed, and what has triggered these trends, as well as their impact.

ACCOMMODATION & TRANSPORTATION PRODUCTS

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

On completion, students will have an in-depth knowledge of New Zealand’s accommodation and transportation products as well as the various terms and phrases specific to these tourism sectors. Students will learn New Zealand’s inbound tourism industry and its importance, including the structure and operations of the industry.

CUSTOMER SERVICE EXCELLENCE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR THOSE WITH SPECIFIC NEEDS

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

On completion of this module, students will have a good understanding of components of customer service and will be able to apply these to the tourism workplace. Students will also learn about the specific needs of customers and how workplaces cater for these by assessing and evaluating actual tourism workplaces.

Maori Tourism

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Students will have a good understanding of the Māori culture including traditions and protocols and basic Te Reo as well as the significance of various tourism attractions and activities to the Māori culture.
